----- PAST YEARS ----- WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Callington Festival was born in 2009 as an addition to the recently reintroduced Callington Carnival and linked the town's two major summer events, the Carnival and Gala Day (unfortunately no longer a Callington event), into a single entity.
The week proved to be an immediate success and, thanks to the support of sponsors and the generosity of the people of Callington during the first three years, a magnificent total of OVER £10,000 was collected and dispersed each year to a range of needy causes.
In 2014 a new addition was made with the introduction of the Kelliwik Festival. Spearheaded by the Town Forum, the three-day event provides FREE access to a wealth of music, dance and performing arts at its venue in the Saltash Road recreation park.
Callington has a long heritage of arts-based activities: the Community College is a specialist music college; local 2D and 3D artists work independently and within groups such as "Drawn to the Valley"; the extensive mural trail has brought visitors from across the globe to Callington; a large number of local singers and musicians, covering a wide spectrum of styles, enjoy tremendous popularity, both in terms of membership and a loyal following.
Callington lies at the hub of the local geographic area, and what better way of celebrating the boundless, natural talent that exists within the locality than to bring it all together for the enjoyment of visitors and local residents alike, whilst at the same time introducing new elements from further afield?
